PRESS RELEASE

STATEMENT BY THE NIGERIA HIGH COMMISSION, LONDON, ON RECENT ALLEGATIONS CONCERNING CONSULAR SERVICES IN THE HIGH COMMISSION

The attention of the High Commission has been drawn to media reports and social media post containing allegations regarding the conduct of certain officers of the High Commission in the course of providing of consular services at the Mission.

In this connection, the High Commission wishes to state unequivocally that it maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, bribery, misconduct, and any actions inconsistent with the laws, regulations, and ethical standards governing the Nigerian Foreign Service. It is, however, regrettable that the complainant chose to resort to social media rather than lodge a formal complain at the High Commission. Meanwhile, the allegations are being carefully reviewed through the appropriate administrative channels. The High Commission is committed to ensuring that any concerns raised by members of the public are treated seriously, fairly, and in accordance with due process.

The High Commission remains dedicated to providing efficient, transparent, and professional consular services to all Nigerians and other members of the public who seek its services and wishes to clarify that in accordance with its established passport processing procedures, applicants are often required to provide a self-addressed prepaid return envelope to facilitate the secure return of their passports and supporting documents upon completion of processing. The return-envelope system is intended to ensure the timely, secure, and efficient delivery of processed passports to applicants.

Members of the public are therefore encouraged to carefully follow all application guidelines and instructions issued by the High Commission in order to avoid unnecessary delays in the receiving their documents.

The Nigeria High Commission appreciates the continued cooperation and understanding of the Nigerian community and the general public, and reaffirms its commitment to accountability, integrity, and excellence in service delivery.
